When the people of the court heard that a person had come back to life, some began joking about it, while others said, “We’ll hear you talk about this some other time.”

So Lot went out and spoke to the men engaged to his daughters. He said, “Hurry! Get out of this place, because the Lord is going to destroy the city.” But they thought he was joking.

But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his words, and made fun of his prophets until the Lord became angry with his people. He could no longer heal them.

“Everyone asked to be excused. The first said to him, ‘I bought a field, and I need to see it. Please excuse me.’

The men who were guarding Jesus made fun of him as they beat him.

Herod and his soldiers treated Jesus with contempt and made fun of him. They put a colorful robe on him and sent him back to Pilate.

The soldiers also made fun of him. They would go up to him, offer him some vinegar,

‘Look, you mockers! Be amazed and die! I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe even if it were reported to you!’ ”

Some Epicurean and Stoic philosophers had discussions with him. Some asked, “What is this babbling fool trying to say?” Others said, “He seems to be speaking about foreign gods.” The philosophers said these things because Paul was telling the Good News about Jesus and saying that people would come back to life.

He has set a day when he is going to judge the world with justice, and he will use a man he has appointed to do this. God has given proof to everyone that he will do this by bringing that man back to life.”

With this response, Paul left the court.

Others said jokingly, “They’re drunk on sweet wine.”

As Paul discussed the subjects of God’s approval, self-control, and the coming judgment, Felix became afraid and said, “That’s enough for now. You can go. When I find time, I’ll send for you again.”

They were disputing with him about their own religion and about some man named Jesus who had died. But Paul claimed that Jesus is alive.

Why do all of you refuse to believe that God can bring dead people back to life?

but our message is that Christ was crucified. This offends Jewish people and makes no sense to people who are not Jewish.

If we have told you that Christ has been brought back to life, how can some of you say that coming back from the dead is impossible?

We have given up our wisdom for Christ, but you have insight because of Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are honored, but we are dishonored.

God says, “At the right time I heard you. On the day of salvation I helped you.” Listen, now is God’s acceptable time! Now is the day of salvation!

Some were made fun of and whipped, and some were chained and put in prison.

So we must go to him outside the camp and endure the insults he endured.
