Suddenly, an angel from the Lord stood near Peter, and his cell was filled with light. The angel nudged Peter’s side, woke him up, and said, “Hurry! Get up!” At that moment the chains fell from Peter’s hands.

But at night an angel from the Lord opened the doors to their cell and led them out of the prison.

Suddenly, a violent earthquake shook the foundations of the jail. All the doors immediately flew open, and all the prisoners’ chains came loose.

He brings about justice for those who are oppressed. He gives food to those who are hungry. The Lord sets prisoners free.

He brought them out of the dark, out of death’s shadow. He broke apart their chains.

The Messenger of the Lord camps around those who fear him, and he rescues them.

because light makes everything easy to see. That’s why it says: “Wake up, sleeper! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

But God brought him from death back to life and destroyed the pains of death, because death had no power to hold him.

While they were puzzled about this, two men in clothes that were as bright as lightning suddenly stood beside them.

An angel from the Lord suddenly appeared to them. The glory of the Lord filled the area with light, and they were terrified.

I have sinned against the Lord. So I will endure his fury until he takes up my cause and wins my case. He will bring me into the light, and I will see his victory.

The angel of the Lord came back and woke him up again. The angel said, “Get up and eat, or your journey will be too much for you.”

Immediately, an angel from the Lord killed Herod for not giving glory to God. Herod was eaten by maggots, and he died.

As Saul was coming near the city of Damascus, a light from heaven suddenly flashed around him.

His brightness is like the sunlight. Rays of light ⌞stream⌟ from his hand. That is where his power is hidden.

I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. His voice was like the sound of rushing water, and the earth was shining because of his glory.

Arise! Shine! Your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has dawned.

O Lord, I am indeed your servant. I am your servant, the son of your female servant. You have freed me from my chains.

Then he lay down and slept under the broom plant. An angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.”

After these things I saw another angel come from heaven. He had tremendous power, and his glory lit up the earth.

What are all the angels? They are spirits sent to serve those who are going to receive salvation.

The night before Herod was going to bring Peter to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers. His hands were bound with two chains, and guards were in front of the door. They were watching the prison.

The sun and the moon stand still. They scatter at the light of your arrows, at the bright lightning of your spear.

“ ‘And this will be a sign for you, Hezekiah: You will eat what grows by itself this year, and the next year you will eat what comes up by itself. But in the third year you will plant and harvest, plant vineyards, and eat what is produced.

O Lord, you are my lamp. The Lord turns my darkness into light.

God places lonely people in families. He leads prisoners out of prison into productive lives, but rebellious people must live in an unproductive land.

The Lord spoke his word to Jeremiah after Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, let him go at Ramah. Nebuzaradan found Jeremiah in chains along with the captives of Jerusalem and Judah who were being taken to Babylon.

Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He sent his angel and saved his servants, who trusted him. They disobeyed the king and risked their lives so that they would not have to honor or worship any god except their own God.

After they had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. The angel said to him, “Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, because Herod intends to search for the child and kill him.”

The angel told him, “Put your shoes on, and get ready to go!” Peter did this. Then the angel told him, “Put your coat on, and follow me.”
