You cleared the ground for it so that it took root and filled the land.

You will bring them and plant them on your own mountain, the place where you live, O Lord, the holy place that you built with your own hands, O Lord.

He dug it up, removed its stones, planted it with the choicest vines, built a watchtower in it, and made a winepress in it. Then he waited for it to produce good grapes, but it produced only sour, wild grapes.

The vineyard of the Lord of Armies is the nation of Israel, and the people of Judah are the garden of his delight. He hoped for justice but saw only slaughter, for righteousness but heard only cries of distress.

No longer will you hear about violence in your land or desolation and destruction within your borders. You will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise.

Then all your people will be righteous, and they will possess the land permanently. They will be the seedling I have planted, the honored work of my hands.

“At another time I may promise to build and plant a nation or a kingdom.

I will watch over them for their own good, and I will bring them back to this land. I will build them up and not tear them down. I will plant them and not uproot them.

The nation of Israel will no longer be hurt by prickly thorns or sharp briars from everyone around them. Then they will know that I am the Almighty Lord.

“On that day I will make an arrangement with the wild animals, the birds, and the animals that crawl on the ground. I will destroy all the bows, swords, and weapons of war, so people can live safely.

I will plant the people of Israel in their land, and they won’t be uprooted again from the land that I gave them, says the Lord your God.

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There won’t be any more death. There won’t be any grief, crying, or pain, because the first things have disappeared.”

The people of Israel cried out to the Lord for help. King Jabin had 900 chariots made of iron and had cruelly oppressed Israel for 20 years.

Raiding parties left the Philistine camp in three columns. One column turned onto the road to Ophrah to the region of Shual.
