David lived in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built the city ⌞of Jerusalem⌟ around it from the Millo  to the palace.

But David captured the fortress Zion (that is, the City of David).

That day David said, “Whoever wants to defeat the Jebusites must reach the lame and the blind who hate me by using the water shaft.” So there is a saying, “The blind and the lame will not get into the palace.”

So David wouldn’t bring the ark of the Lord with him to the City of David. Instead, he rerouted it to the home of Obed Edom, who was from Gath.

This was the situation when he rebelled against the king: Solomon was building the Millo  and repairing a break in the ⌞wall of⌟ the City of David.

David lay down in death with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David.

This is the record of the forced laborers whom King Solomon drafted to build the Lord’s house, his own house, the Millo, the walls of Jerusalem, and ⌞the cities of⌟ Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.

Pharaoh’s daughter moved from the City of David to the palace that Solomon had built for her. Then he built the Millo.

His own officials plotted against him and killed him at Beth Millo on the road that goes down to Silla.

Joash’s officials Jozacar, son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad, son of Shomer, executed him. They buried him with his ancestors in the City of David. His son Amaziah succeeded him as king.

He built the city ⌞of Jerusalem⌟ around it, starting from the Millo  and making a complete circuit. Joab rebuilt the rest of the city.

Hezekiah worked hard. He rebuilt all the broken sections of the wall, made the towers taller, built another wall outside ⌞the city wall⌟, strengthened the Millo  in the City of David, and made plenty of weapons and shields.

Shallun, Col Hozeh’s son, the official in charge of the district of Mizpah, repaired Fountain Gate. He rebuilt it, put a roof over it, and set its doors, locks, and bars in place. He also made repairs on the wall of the Pool of Shelah by the King’s Garden as far as the stairs going down from the City of David.

Jerusalem is built to be a city where the people are united.

How horrible it will be for you Ariel, Ariel, the city where David camped. Let year after year go by. Let your annual festivals go on.

But if that’s not the case, let fire come out of Abimelech and burn up citizens of Shechem and Beth Millo. Also let fire come out of citizens of Shechem and Beth Millo and burn up Abimelech.”

All the citizens from Shechem and Beth Millo united. They went to the oak tree that was still standing in Shechem and proclaimed Abimelech king.
