As the war between the royal families of Saul and David dragged on, David’s family became stronger and stronger, and Saul’s family became weaker and weaker.

I was with you wherever you went, and I destroyed all your enemies in front of you. I will make your name famous like the names of the greatest people on earth.

He put troops everywhere in Edom, and all the Edomites were David’s subjects. Everywhere David went, the Lord gave him victories.

David put troops in the Aramean kingdom of Damascus, and the Arameans became his subjects and paid taxes ⌞to him⌟. Everywhere David went, the Lord gave him victories.

Yet, the righteous person clings to his way, and the one with clean hands grows stronger.

Who, then, is this king of glory? The Lord of Armies is the king of glory! Selah

The Lord of Armies is with us. The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah

But the path of righteous people is like the light of dawn that becomes brighter and brighter until it reaches midday.

His government and peace will have unlimited growth. He will establish David’s throne and kingdom. He will uphold it with justice and righteousness now and forever. The Lord of Armies is determined to do this!

“But now, Zerubbabel, be strong,” declares the Lord. “Chief Priest Joshua (son of Jehozadak), be strong. Everyone in the land, be strong,” declares the Lord. “Work, because I am with you,” declares the Lord of Armies.

Jesus grew in wisdom and maturity. He gained favor from God and people.

What can we say about all of this? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with David but had left Saul.

He was successful in everything he undertook because the Lord was with him.

David was successful wherever Saul sent him. Saul put him in charge of the fighting men. This pleased all the people, including Saul’s officials.
