He chased Abner and refused to leave him alone.

Zeruiah’s three sons were there: Joab, Abishai, and Asahel. Asahel was as fast on his feet as a wild gazelle.

When Abner looked back, he asked, “Are you Asahel?” “Yes,” Asahel answered.

Abner told him, “Leave me alone! Catch one of the young men, and take his weapon.” But Asahel refused to turn away from him.

When Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gateway as if to talk to him privately. There he stabbed Abner in the belly. Abner died because he spilled the blood of Joab’s brother Asahel.

(Joab and his brother Abishai killed Abner because he had killed their brother Asahel in the battle at Gibeon.)

Josiah did what the Lord considered right. He lived in the ways of his ancestor David and never stopped.

Do not lean to the right or to the left. Walk away from evil.

“Only be strong and very courageous, faithfully doing everything in the teachings that my servant Moses commanded you. Don’t turn away from them. Then you will succeed wherever you go.

Now you must be very strong to keep and to do everything written in the Book of Moses’ Teachings. Don’t turn away from them.
