2 Samuel 19:43

God's Word

The people of Israel answered the people of Judah, “We have ten times your interest in the king and a greater claim on David than you have. Why, then, do you despise us? Weren’t we the first to suggest bringing back our king?” But the people of Judah spoke ⌞even⌟ more harshly than the people of Israel.

All the people of Judah were in total agreement. So they sent the king this message: “Come back with all your servants.”

All the people in all the tribes of Israel were arguing with one another, saying, “The king rescued us from our enemies and saved us from the Philistines, but now he has fled from Absalom and left the country.

A good-for-nothing man by the name of Sheba, Bichri’s son, from the tribe of Benjamin happened to be at Gilgal. He blew a ram’s horn ⌞to announce⌟, “We have no share in David’s kingdom. We won’t receive an inheritance from Jesse’s son. Everyone to his own tent, Israel!”

David then told Abishai, “Sheba, son of Bichri, will do us more harm than Absalom. Take my men and go after him, or he will find some fortified cities and take the best ones for himself.”

All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron. “We are your own flesh and blood,” they said.

When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, the people answered the king, “What share do we have in David’s kingdom? We won’t receive an inheritance from Jesse’s son. To your own tents, Israel! Now look after your own house, David!” So Israel went home to their own tents.

Arrogance produces only quarreling, but those who take advice gain wisdom.

A gentle answer turns away rage, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Starting a quarrel is ⌞like⌟ opening a floodgate, so stop before the argument gets out of control.

An offended brother is more ⌞resistant⌟ than a strong city, and disputes are like the locked gate of a castle tower.

Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil with good.

But if you criticize and attack each other, be careful that you don’t destroy each other.

idolatry, drug use, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, angry outbursts, selfish ambition, conflict, factions,

We can’t allow ourselves to act arrogantly and to provoke or envy each other.

Don’t act out of selfish ambition or be conceited. Instead, humbly think of others as being better than yourselves.

An angry person doesn’t do what God approves of.

The men from Ephraim strongly protested Gideon’s actions. They said, “Why did you do this to us? You didn’t invite us to go fight Midian with you.”

Then God sent an evil spirit to cause problems between Abimelech and citizens of Shechem. So citizens of Shechem turned against Abimelech.
