Gehazi, the servant of Elisha (the man of God), thought, “My master let this Aramean Naaman go without accepting what he had brought. As sure as the Lord lives, I’ll run after Naaman and get something from him.”

Elijah, who was from Tishbe but had settled in Gilead, said to Ahab, “I solemnly swear, as the Lord God of Israel whom I serve lives, there will be no dew or rain during the next few years unless I say so.”

Then the man of God became angry with him. “You should have stomped five or six times!” he said. “Then you would have completely defeated the Arameans. But now you will only defeat the Arameans three times.”

He told his servant Gehazi, “Call this Shunem woman.” Gehazi called her, and she stood in front of him.

So she came to the man of God at Mount Carmel. When he saw her coming at a distance, he told his servant Gehazi, “There is the woman from Shunem.

Gehazi went ahead of them and put the staff on the boy’s face, but there was no sound or sign of life. So Gehazi came back to meet the man of God. Gehazi told him, “The boy didn’t wake up.”

Elisha called Gehazi and said, “Call the Shunem woman.” Gehazi called her. When she came to him, he said, “Take your son.”

Elisha said, “I solemnly swear, as the Lord whom I serve lives, I will not accept it.” Naaman urged him to take it, but he refused.

So Gehazi went after Naaman. When Naaman saw Gehazi running after him, he got down from his chariot to speak to him. “Is something wrong?” he asked.

He said, “May God strike me dead if the head of Elisha, son of Shaphat, stays on his ⌞body⌟ today.”

The king was talking to Gehazi, the servant of the man of God. He said, “Please tell me about all the great things Elisha has done.”

Elisha went to Damascus. King Benhadad of Aram, who was sick, was told, “The man of God has come here.”

The wicked person boasts about his selfish desires. He blesses robbers, but he curses the Lord.

“Never desire to take your neighbor’s household away from him. “Never desire to take your neighbor’s wife, his male or female slave, his ox, his donkey, or anything else that belongs to him.”

“Never use the name of the Lord your God carelessly. The Lord will make sure that anyone who carelessly uses his name will be punished.

A lazy person thinks he is wiser than seven people who give a sensible answer.

Listen to this, descendants of Jacob! You are given the name of Israel. You are descended from Judah. You take oaths by the name of the Lord. You acknowledge the God of Israel, but you are not honest or sincere.

“But your eyes and your mind are set on nothing but dishonest profits. You kill innocent people and violently oppress your people.”

“ ‘How horrible it will be for the one who uses violence to get things for his own household in order to set his nest up high and save himself from disaster.’

It could have been sold for a high price, and the money could have been given to the poor.”

He told the people, “Be careful to guard yourselves from every kind of greed. Life is not about having a lot of material possessions.”

“The master praised the dishonest manager for being so clever. Worldly people are more clever than spiritually-minded people when it comes to dealing with others.”

While supper was taking place, the devil had already put the idea of betraying Jesus into the mind of Judas, son of Simon Iscariot.

Jesus replied, “I chose all twelve of you. Yet, one of you is a devil.”

They agreed to hold back some of the money ⌞they had pledged⌟ and turned only part of it over to the apostles.

Demas has abandoned me. He fell in love with this present world and went to the city of Thessalonica. Crescens went to the province of Galatia, and Titus went to the province of Dalmatia.

Because a bishop is a supervisor appointed by God, he must have a good reputation. He must not be a stubborn or irritable person. He must not drink too much or be a violent person. He must not use shameful ways to make money.

Be shepherds over the flock God has entrusted to you. Watch over it as God does: Don’t do this because you have to, but because you want to. Don’t do it out of greed, but out of a desire to serve.

I solemnly swear, as the Lord and Savior of Israel lives, even if it is my son Jonathan ⌞who did it⌟, he must die.” But not one of the soldiers replied.
