2 Kings 23:30

God's Word

His officers put his dead body in a chariot and brought it from Megiddo to Jerusalem. They buried Josiah in his tomb. Then the people of the land took Josiah’s son Jehoahaz, anointed him, and made him king in place of his father.

All the people of Judah took Azariah, who was 16 years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah.

Then the people of the land killed everyone who had plotted against King Amon. They made his son Josiah king in his place.

That is why I’m going to bring you to your ancestors. I’m going to bring you to your grave in peace, and your eyes will not see any of the disaster I’m going to bring on this place.’ ” So they reported this to the king.

His servants brought him in a chariot to Jerusalem. They buried him in a tomb with his ancestors in the City of David.

After all this, when Josiah had repaired the temple, King Neco of Egypt came to fight a battle at Carchemish at the Euphrates River. Josiah went to attack him.

His officers took him out of the chariot and brought him to Jerusalem in his other chariot. He died and was buried in the tombs of his ancestors. All Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.

Don’t cry for the dead. Don’t shake your heads at them. Cry bitterly for those who are taken away, because they won’t come back to see their homeland.

This is what the Lord says about King Josiah’s son Shallum, who succeeded his father as king of Judah and left this place: He will never come back here again.
