2 Kings 17:13

God's Word

The Lord had warned Israel and Judah through every kind of prophet and seer, “Turn from your evil ways, and obey my commands and decrees as I commanded your ancestors in all my teachings, the commands I sent to you through my servants the prophets.”

The Lord spoke his word to Jehu, Hanani’s son, against Baasha.

In addition, the Lord spoke his word to the prophet Jehu, Hanani’s son, against Baasha and his family because of all the things Baasha did which the Lord considered evil. Baasha’s actions, which made the Lord furious, were like ⌞the sin of⌟ Jeroboam’s family. The Lord was also furious because Baasha destroyed Jeroboam’s family.

Finally, the Lord turned away from Israel as he had said he would through all his servants, the prophets. So the people of Israel were taken from their land to Assyria as captives, and they are still there today.

He was loyal to the Lord and never turned away from him. He obeyed the commands that the Lord had given through Moses,

Then the Lord spoke through his servants the prophets:

If you’re holding on to sin, put it far away, and don’t let injustice live in your tent.

He makes them listen to his warning and orders them to turn away from wrong.

“Listen, my people, and I will speak. Listen, Israel, and I will testify against you: I am God, your God!

I solemnly warned your ancestors when I brought them out of Egypt, and the warning still applies to you today. I solemnly warned them to obey me.

“Now say to the people of Judah and to those who live in Jerusalem, ‘This is what the Lord says: I’m going to prepare a disaster and make plans against you. Turn from your evil ways, change your lives, and do good.’

“For 23 years, from the time that Josiah, son of Amon, was in his thirteenth year as king of Judah until today, the Lord continued to speak his word to me. So I have spoken to you again and again, but you have not listened.

I thought that after she had done all this that she would come back to me. But she didn’t come back, and her treacherous sister Judah saw her.

‘Every seven years each of you must free any Hebrews who sold themselves to you. When they have served you for six years, you must set them free.’ But your ancestors refused to obey me or listen to me.

I have sent all my servants the prophets to you again and again. They said, “Turn from your evil ways, do what is right, and don’t follow other gods in order to serve them. Then you will live in the land that I gave you and your ancestors.” However, you refused to listen to me or obey me.

“The Lord has told you people who are left in Judah not to go to Egypt. You need to know that I am warning you today.

Stop all the rebellious things that you are doing. Get yourselves new hearts and new spirits. Why do you want to die, nation of Israel?

But suppose you warn the wicked people, and they don’t turn from their wicked ways. Then they will die because of their sin, but you will save yourself.

We never listened to you or lived by the teachings you gave us through your servants the prophets.

The more I called them, the farther they went away. They sacrificed to other gods—the Baals, and they burned incense to idols.

I spoke to the prophets and gave them many visions. I taught lessons through the prophets.”

The people of Gilead are evil. They are worthless. They sacrifice bulls in Gilgal. But their altars will become like piles of rubble beside a plowed field.

Israel, return to the Lord your God. You have stumbled because of your sins.

“Israel, you act like a prostitute. Don’t let Judah become guilty too. Don’t go to Gilgal. Don’t go to Beth Aven. Don’t take the oath, ‘As the Lord lives. …’

I warned Jews and Greeks to change the way they think and act and to believe in our Lord Jesus.

When many terrible disasters happen to them, this song will testify against them, because it will never be forgotten by their descendants. I know what their hearts are set on doing, even now before I bring them into the land that I swore to give them.”

you will quickly disappear from the land you’re going to possess on the other side of the Jordan River. You won’t live very long there. You’ll be completely wiped out.

I warn you today that if you forget the Lord your God and follow other gods, and if you serve them and bow down to them, you will certainly be destroyed.

When you ignore the conditions  placed on you by the Lord your God and follow other gods, serve them and bow down to them, the Lord will be angry with you. Then you will quickly disappear from the good land he has given you.”

The Lord isn’t slow to do what he promised, as some people think. Rather, he is patient for your sake. He doesn’t want to destroy anyone but wants all people to have an opportunity to turn to him and change the way they think and act.

I said to you, ‘I am the Lord your God. You must never fear the gods of the Amorites in whose land you will live.’ But you have not obeyed me.”

the Lord sent a prophet to them. He said, “This is what the Lord God of Israel says: I brought you out of Egypt. I took you away from slavery.

(Formerly in Israel, when a person went to ask God ⌞a question⌟, he would say, “Come, let’s go to the seer,” because a person we now call a prophet used to be called a seer.)
