Pride precedes a disaster, and an arrogant attitude precedes a fall.

Starting a quarrel is ⌞like⌟ opening a floodgate, so stop before the argument gets out of control.

Avoiding a quarrel is honorable. After all, any stubborn fool can start a fight.

Do not be in a hurry to go to court. What will you do in the end if your neighbor disgraces you?

⌞Like⌟ grabbing a dog by the ears, ⌞so⌟ is a bystander who gets involved in someone else’s quarrel.

Do not quarrel with a person for no reason if he has not harmed you.

Because of your great skill in trading, you’ve made yourself very wealthy. You have become arrogant because of your wealth.

“ ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says: You are the one I spoke about long ago through my servants the prophets of Israel. They prophesied in those days that I would bring you to attack them.

When that army is captured, the southern king will become conceited. Although he will dominate tens of thousands of people, he will not always be strong.

“Look at the proud person. He is not right in himself. But the righteous person will live because of his faithfulness.

Also because wine is treacherous he is arrogant and never rests. He has a large appetite like the grave. He is like death—never satisfied. He gathers all the nations to himself. He collects all the people to himself.

When this happens, be careful that you don’t become arrogant and forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of slavery in Egypt.

Humble believers should be proud because being humble makes them important.

But God shows us even more kindness. Scripture says, “God opposes arrogant people, but he is kind to humble people.”

Abimelech came to the tower. He began to fight against it and went near the entrance of the tower to burn it down.
