People think we are sad although we’re always glad, that we’re beggars although we make many people spiritually rich, that we have nothing although we possess everything.

The Lord God is a sun and shield. The Lord grants favor and honor. He does not hold back any blessing from those who live innocently.

One person pretends to be rich but has nothing. Another pretends to be poor but has great wealth.

How much better it is to gain wisdom than gold, and the gaining of understanding should be chosen over silver.

Rejoice and be glad because you have a great reward in heaven! The prophets who lived before you were persecuted in these ways.

Blessed are those who mourn. They will be comforted.

Blessed are those who are hungry. They will be satisfied. Blessed are those who are crying. They will laugh.

“Now you’re in a painful situation. But I will see you again. Then you will be happy, and no one will take that happiness away from you.

Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God. The other prisoners were listening to them.

However, Peter said to him, “I don’t have any money, but I’ll give you what I do have. Through the power of Jesus Christ from Nazareth, walk!”

The apostles left the council room. They were happy to have been considered worthy to suffer dishonor for speaking about Jesus.

The fall of the Jewish people made the world spiritually rich. Their failure made people who are not Jewish spiritually rich. So the inclusion of Jewish people will make the world even richer.

Be happy with those who are happy. Be sad with those who are sad.

May God, the source of hope, fill you with joy and peace through your faith in him. Then you will overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

God didn’t spare his own Son but handed him over ⌞to death⌟ for all of us. So he will also give us everything along with him.

I have deep sorrow and endless heartache.

Through Christ Jesus you have become rich in every way—in speech and knowledge of every kind.

I was deeply troubled and anguished. In fact, I had tears in my eyes when I wrote to you. I didn’t write to make you uncomfortable but to let you know how much I love you.

All this is for your sake so that, as God’s kindness  overflows in the lives of many people, it will produce even more thanksgiving to the glory of God.

Our bodies are made of clay, yet we have the treasure of the Good News in them. This shows that the superior power of this treasure belongs to God and doesn’t come from us.

You know about the kindness of our Lord Jesus Christ. He was rich, yet for your sake he became poor in order to make you rich through his poverty.

I’m asking God to give you a gift from the wealth of his glory. I pray that he would give you inner strength and power through his Spirit.

I am the least of all God’s people. Yet, God showed me his kindness by allowing me to spread the Good News of the immeasurable wealth of Christ to people who are not Jewish.

My life is being poured out as a part of the sacrifice and service ⌞I offer to God⌟ for your faith. Yet, I am filled with joy, and I share that joy with all of you.

Always be joyful in the Lord! I’ll say it again: Be joyful!

I am happy to suffer for you now. In my body I am completing whatever remains of Christ’s sufferings. I am doing this on behalf of his body, the church.

Let Christ’s word with all its wisdom and richness live in you. Use psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to teach and instruct yourselves about ⌞God’s⌟ kindness. Sing to God in your hearts.

You imitated us and the Lord. In spite of a lot of suffering, you welcomed God’s word with the kind of joy that the Holy Spirit gives.

Training the body helps a little, but godly living helps in every way. Godly living has the promise of life now and in the world to come.

Tell them to do good, to do a lot of good things, to be generous, and to share.

You suffered with prisoners. You were cheerful even though your possessions were stolen, since you know that you have a better and more permanent possession.

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters! Didn’t God choose poor people in the world to become rich in faith and to receive the kingdom that he promised to those who love him?

but be happy as you share Christ’s sufferings. Then you will also be full of joy when he appears again in his glory.

I know how you are suffering, how poor you are—but you are rich. I also know that those who claim to be Jews slander you. They are the synagogue of Satan.

Everyone who wins the victory will inherit these things. I will be their God, and they will be my children.
