However, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, pray, search for me, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear ⌞their prayer⌟ from heaven, forgive their sins, and heal their country.

Frightened, Jehoshaphat decided to ask for the Lord’s help. He announced a fast throughout Judah.

The people of Judah gathered to seek the Lord’s help. They came from every city in Judah.

then hear ⌞them⌟ in heaven. Forgive the sins of your servants, your people Israel. Teach them the proper way to live. Then send rain on the land, which you gave to your people as an inheritance.

Hear ⌞them⌟ in heaven, where you live. Forgive ⌞them⌟, and give each person the proper reply. (You know what is in their hearts, because you alone know what is in people’s hearts.)

then hear ⌞them⌟ in heaven, the place where you live. Do everything they ask you so that all the people of the world may know your name and fear you like your people Israel and learn that this temple which I built bears your name.

⌞When you said,⌟ “Seek my face,” my heart said to you, “O Lord, I will seek your face.”

You made the land quake. You split it wide open. Heal the cracks in it because it is falling apart.

Whoever covers over his sins does not prosper. Whoever confesses and abandons them receives compassion.

I haven’t spoken privately or in some dark corner of the world. I didn’t say to Jacob’s descendants, “Search for me in vain!” I, the Lord, speak what is fair and say what is right.

“Then a Savior will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who turn from rebellion,” declares the Lord.

We have become like those whom you never ruled, like those who are not called by your name.

Why should you be like someone taken by surprise, like a strong man who cannot help? You, O Lord, are among us. We are called by your name. Don’t leave us!

“But I will heal this city and restore it to health. I will heal its people, and I will give them peace and security.

“In those days and at that time,” declares the Lord, “the people of Israel and Judah will cry as they go together to seek the Lord their God.

We wanted to heal Babylon, but it couldn’t be healed. Let’s abandon it and go to our own land. God has judged Babylon. Its judgment is complete.

Isn’t there medicine in Gilead? Aren’t there doctors there? Then why hasn’t the health of my dear people been restored?

“Tell them, ‘As I live, declares the Almighty Lord, I don’t want wicked people to die. Rather, I want them to turn from their ways and live. Change the way you think and act! Turn from your wicked ways! Do you want to die, people of Israel?’

“Son of man, say to your people, ‘The right things that a righteous person has done will not save him when he rebels. The wicked things that a wicked person has done will not make him stumble when he turns from his wickedness. The righteous person will not live when he sins.’

“So whenever they use my name to bless the Israelites, I will bless them.”

The Lord told him, “Get up! Go to Judas’ house on Straight Street, and ask for a man named Saul from the city of Tarsus. He’s praying.

Then all the people in the world will see that you are the Lord’s people, and they will be afraid of you.
