But when he became powerful, his pride destroyed him. He was unfaithful to the Lord his God. He went into the Lord’s temple to burn incense on the incense altar.

He went to his altar in Bethel to burn an offering on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, ⌞the festival⌟ he had invented for the Israelites.

A man of God from Judah had come to Bethel. When he arrived, Jeroboam was standing at the altar to offer a sacrifice.

He did what the Lord considered right, as his father Uzziah had done. But unlike his father, he didn’t ⌞illegally⌟ enter the Lord’s temple. Nevertheless, the people continued their corrupt ways.

But Hezekiah was conceited, so he didn’t repay the Lord for his kindness. The Lord became angry with him, with Judah, and with Jerusalem.

Pride precedes a disaster, and an arrogant attitude precedes a fall.

When that army is captured, the southern king will become conceited. Although he will dominate tens of thousands of people, he will not always be strong.

The male goat became very important. But when the goat became powerful, his large horn broke off. In its place grew four horns. They corresponded to the four winds of heaven.

“Look at the proud person. He is not right in himself. But the righteous person will live because of his faithfulness.

When this happens, be careful that you don’t become arrogant and forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of slavery in Egypt.

You may say to yourselves, “I became wealthy because of my own ability and strength.”

Let no one who delights in ⌞false⌟ humility and the worship of angels tell you that you don’t deserve a prize. Such a person, whose sinful mind fills him with arrogance, gives endless details of the visions he has seen.
