So King Joash of Judah took all the gifts his ancestors Kings Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, and Ahaziah of Judah, had dedicated to the Lord, the things he had dedicated to the Lord, and all the gold that could be found in the storerooms of the Lord’s temple and the royal palace. He sent these things to King Hazael of Aram, who called off the attack on Jerusalem.

He was buried in the City of David with the kings because of the good he had done in Israel for God and the temple.

They abandoned the temple of the Lord God of their ancestors and worshiped idols and the poles dedicated to the goddess Asherah. This offense of theirs brought God’s anger upon Judah and Jerusalem.

Whoever goes around as a gossip tells secrets. Do not associate with a person whose mouth is always open.

A lying tongue hates its victims, and a flattering mouth causes ruin.

Like tying a stone to a sling, so is giving honor to a fool.

If a ruler pays attention to lies, all his servants become wicked.

A person who flatters his neighbor is spreading a net for him to step into.

“But suppose a righteous person turns away from doing right and he does evil things. He does all the disgusting things that the wicked person did. Will he live? All the right things that he has done will not be remembered because of his unfaithfulness and because of his sin. He will die because of them.

With flattery he will corrupt those who abandon the promise. But the people who know their God will be strong and take action.

When it comes, it finds the house swept clean and in order.

I know how rebellious you are. You are impossible to deal with. While I am alive and still with you, you are rebelling against the Lord. How much more rebellious will you be after I die?

So I will make every effort to see that you remember these things after I die.

As soon as Gideon died, the people of Israel chased after other gods—the Baals—as though they were prostitutes. They made Baal Berith their god.
