2 Chronicles 14:11

God's Word

Asa called on the Lord his God. He said, “Lord, there is no one except you who can help those who are not strong so that they can fight against a large ⌞army⌟. Help us, Lord our God, because we are depending on you. In your name we go against this large crowd. You are the Lord our God. Don’t let anyone successfully oppose you.”

“When your people go to war against their enemies (wherever you may send them) and they pray to you, O Lord, toward the city you have chosen and the temple I built for your name,

and received help while fighting them. Hagar’s descendants and the nations with them were handed over to Reuben’s descendants. They had called out to God during the battle, and he answered their prayers because they trusted him.

God is with us as our leader. His priests will sound their trumpets to call ⌞the army⌟ to fight you. Men of Israel, don’t wage war against the Lord God of your ancestors. You won’t succeed.”

When Judah’s soldiers looked around, the battle was in front of them and behind them. They cried out to the Lord, the priests blew the trumpets,

and the men of Judah shouted. When they shouted, God attacked Jeroboam and all Israel in front of Abijah and Judah.

So the Israelites were humbled at that time, and the men of Judah won because they trusted the Lord God of their ancestors.

Asa went to confront him, and the two armies set up their battle lines in the Zephathah Valley at Mareshah.

At that time the seer  Hanani came to King Asa of Judah and said to him, “Because you depended on the king of Syria and did not depend on the Lord your God, the army of the king of Aram has escaped your grasp.

When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “He must be the king of Israel.” So they surrounded him in order to fight him. But when Jehoshaphat cried out, the Lord helped him. God drew them away from him,

You’re our God. Won’t you judge them? We don’t have the strength to face this large crowd that is attacking us. We don’t know what to do, so we’re looking to you.”

Jehoshaphat carefully followed the example his father Asa had set and did what the Lord considered right.

If you go into battle with them, no matter how courageous you are, God will use the enemy to defeat you, because God has the power to help you or to defeat you.”

God helped him when he attacked the Philistines, the Arabs who lived in Gur Baal, and the Meunites.

Then King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz, prayed about this and called to heaven.

The king of Assyria has human power on his side, but the Lord our God is on our side to help us and fight our battles.” So the people were encouraged by what King Hezekiah of Judah said.

When I was in trouble, I cried out to the Lord, and he answered me.

I called on the Lord in my distress. I cried to my God for help. He heard my voice from his temple, and my cry for help reached his ears.

We will joyfully sing about your victory. We will wave our flags in the name of our God. The Lord will fulfill all your requests.

Some ⌞rely⌟ on chariots and others on horses, but we will boast in the name of the Lord our God.

They will sink to their knees and fall, but we will rise and stand firm.

They cried to you and were saved. They trusted you and were never disappointed.

Yet, I am a worm and not a man. I am scorned by humanity and despised by people.

Here is a poor man who called out. The Lord heard him and saved him from all his troubles.

Entrust your ways to the Lord. Trust him, and he will act ⌞on your behalf⌟.

Call on me in times of trouble. I will rescue you, and you will honor me.”

Arise, O Lord. Do not let mortals gain any power. Let the nations be judged in your presence.

When you call to me, I will answer you. I will be with you when you are in trouble. I will save you and honor you.

As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up and saw that the Egyptians were coming after them. Terrified, the Israelites cried out to the Lord.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower. A righteous person runs to it and is safe.

At that time the remaining few Israelites, the survivors of Jacob’s descendants will no longer depend on the one who struck them. They will only depend on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel.

Stop trusting people. Their life is in their nostrils. How can they be worth anything?

O Lord, our God, you are not the only master to rule us, but we acknowledge only you.

They will fight you, but they will not defeat you. I am with you, and I will rescue you,” declares the Lord.

Five of you will chase a hundred of them, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand of them. You will defeat your enemies,

He destroys strongholds and ruins fortresses.

This is what the Lord of Armies says: Afterwards, the Glory sent me to the nations who looted you. Whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye.

You are Peter, and I can guarantee that on this rock  I will build my church. And the gates of hell will not overpower it.

“Don’t be troubled. Believe in God, and believe in me.

“I’m leaving you peace. I’m giving you my peace. I don’t give you the kind of peace that the world gives. So don’t be troubled or cowardly.

Then whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

We believe in the one named Jesus. Through his power alone this man, whom you know, was healed, as all of you saw.

He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul! Saul! Why are you persecuting me?”

What can we say about all of this? If God is for us, who can be against us?

But I didn’t want their enemies to make me angry. I didn’t want their opponents to misunderstand and say, ‘We won this victory! It wasn’t the Lord who did all this!’ ”

How could one person chase a thousand or two people make ten thousand flee? Their rock used these people to defeat them and the Lord gave them no help.

The Lord will judge his people and have compassion on his servants when he sees that their strength is gone and that no one is left, neither slaves nor free people.

Then the Lord said to Gideon, “With the 300 men who lapped water I will save you and hand Midian over to you. All the other men should go home.”

Jonathan said to his armorbearer, “Let’s go to the military post of these uncircumcised people. Maybe the Lord will act on our behalf. The Lord can win a victory with a few men as well as with many.”

Then everyone gathered here will know that the Lord can save without sword or spear, because the Lord determines every battle’s outcome. He will hand all of you over to us.”

He safeguards the steps of his faithful ones, but wicked people are silenced in darkness because humans cannot succeed by their own strength.
