God's Word

God replied to Solomon, “I know this request is from your heart. You didn’t ask for riches, fortunes, honor, or the death of those who hate you. You didn’t even ask for a long life. Instead, you’ve asked for wisdom and knowledge to judge my people, over whom I made you king.

The whole world wanted to listen to the wisdom that God gave Solomon.

All Israel heard about the decision the king made. They respected the king very highly, because they saw he possessed wisdom from God to do what was right.

However, the Lord said to my father David, ‘Since you had your heart set on building a temple for my name, your intentions were good.

David stood in front of them and said, “Listen to me, my relatives and subjects. I had my heart set on building the temple where the ark of the Lord’s promise could be placed. This temple would be a stool for our God’s feet, and I have made preparations to build it.

So wisdom and knowledge will be given to you. I will also give you riches, fortunes, and honor like no other king before or after you.”

The wisdom of a sensible person guides his way of life, but the stupidity of fools misleads them.

As he calculates the cost to himself, this is what he does: He tells you, “Eat and drink,” but he doesn’t really mean it.

Through me kings reign, and rulers decree fair laws.

While you had the land, it was your own. After it was sold, you could have done as you pleased with the money. So how could you do a thing like this? You didn’t lie to people but to God!”

God’s word is living and active. It is sharper than any two-edged sword and cuts as deep as the place where soul and spirit meet, the place where joints and marrow meet. God’s word judges a person’s thoughts and intentions.

Do any of you have wisdom and insight? Show this by living the right way with the humility that comes from wisdom.

However, the wisdom that comes from above is first of all pure. Then it is peaceful, gentle, obedient, filled with mercy and good deeds, impartial, and sincere.

But the Lord told Samuel, “Don’t look at his appearance or how tall he is, because I have rejected him. God does not see as humans see. Humans look at outward appearances, but the Lord looks into the heart.”
