Every year he went around to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah in order to judge Israel in all those places.
He named that place Bethel [House of God]. Previously, the name of the city was Luz.
Jacob and all the people who were with him came to Luz (that is, Bethel) in the land of Canaan.
When I choose the right time, I will judge fairly.
“Listen to this, you priests! Pay attention, nation of Israel! Open your ears, royal family! This is my decision about you. You set traps at Mizpah and spread out nets on Mount Tabor.
But don’t search ⌞for me⌟ at Bethel. Don’t go to Gilgal. Don’t travel to Beersheba. Gilgal will certainly go into exile. Bethel will come to nothing.
Mizpeh, Chephirah, Mozah,
The people of Israel camped at Gilgal in the Jericho plain. There they celebrated the Passover on the evening of the fourteenth day of the month.
The Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have removed the disgrace of Egypt from you.” So Joshua named the place Gilgal, the name it still has today.
Jair had 30 sons who rode on 30 donkeys. He also had 30 towns that are still called Havvoth Jair to this day. They are in the region of Gilead.
He had 40 sons and 30 grandsons who rode on 70 donkeys. He judged Israel for eight years.
You people who ride on brown donkeys, who sit on saddle blankets, and who walk on the road—think.
Samuel called the people to ⌞come into the presence of⌟ the Lord at Mizpah.
Samuel told the troops, “Come, let’s go to Gilgal and there acknowledge ⌞Saul’s⌟ kingship.”
Then Samuel said, “Gather all the Israelites together at Mizpah, and I will pray to the Lord for you.”
