“What did the Lord tell you?” he asked. “Please don’t hide anything from me. May God strike you dead if you hide anything he told you from me.”

The king said to the woman, “Please don’t refuse to answer the question I’m going to ask you.” The woman responded, “Please speak, Your Majesty.”

And tell Amasa, ‘Aren’t you my flesh and blood? May God strike me dead unless you are given Joab’s place to serve me always as the commander of the army.’ ”

That entire day all the people tried to get David to eat some food. But David had taken an oath: “May God strike me dead if I taste any food or anything else before the sun goes down.”

May God strike me dead unless I do for David what the Lord had promised him with an oath:

A righteous person may strike me or correct me out of kindness. It is like lotion for my head. My head will not refuse it, because my prayer is directed against evil deeds.

King Zedekiah sent for the prophet Jeremiah and brought him to the third entrance in the Lord’s temple. “I’m going to ask you a question,” the king said to Jeremiah. “Don’t hide anything from me.”

The prophet Jeremiah answered them, “I have listened to your request. I will pray to the Lord your God as you have requested, and I will tell you everything the Lord says. I won’t keep anything from you.”

Then Daniel (who had been renamed Belteshazzar) was momentarily stunned. What he was thinking frightened him. I told him, “Belteshazzar, don’t let the dream and its meaning frighten you.” Belteshazzar answered, “Sir, I wish that the dream were about those who hate you and its meaning were about your enemies.

Should the descendants of Jacob be asked: Has the Spirit of the Lord become impatient with you? Has he done these things? Are his words good for those who live honestly?

He came to Balak and found him standing beside his burnt offering with the princes of Moab. Balak asked him, “What did the Lord say?”

But Jesus was silent. Then the chief priest said to him, “Swear an oath in front of the living God and tell us, are you the Messiah, the Son of God?”

Wherever you die, I will die, and I will be buried there with you. May the Lord strike me down if anything but death separates you and me!”

Saul said, “May God do worse things to me than are in this curse if you do not die, Jonathan!”

If my father plans to harm you and I fail to tell you and send you away safely, may the Lord harm me even more. May the Lord be with you as he used to be with my father.

May God punish me  if I leave even one of his men  alive in the morning.”

Then Eli called Samuel. “Samuel, my son!” he said. “Here I am,” he responded.
