Jehu got up and went into the house. The prophet poured olive oil on his head and told him, “This is what the Lord God of Israel says: I have anointed you king of the Lord’s people, ⌞king⌟ of Israel.

Riches and honor are in front of you. You rule everything. You hold power and strength in your hands, and you can make anyone great and strong.

Hezekiah became richer and was highly honored. He prepared storerooms for himself to hold silver, gold, precious stones, spices, shields, and all kinds of valuables.

He made cities for himself because he had many sheep and cattle. God had given him a lot of property.

He said, “Naked I came from my mother, and naked I will return. The Lord has given, and the Lord has taken away! May the name of the Lord be praised.”

Look at all who are arrogant, and humble them. Crush wicked people wherever they are.

He places lowly people up high. He lifts those who mourn to safety.

because of your hostility and anger, because you have picked me up and thrown me away.

God alone is the judge. He punishes one person and rewards another.

A cup is in the Lord’s hand. (Its foaming wine is thoroughly mixed with spices.) He will empty it, ⌞and⌟ all the wicked people on earth will have to drink every last drop.

The rich and the poor have this in common: the Lord is the maker of them all.

The Lord of Armies will have his day against all who are arrogant and conceited and all who are proud of themselves (they will be humbled),

“Edom, I will make you the smallest of nations and despised among humanity.

Then all the trees in the field will know that I am the Lord. I cut down tall trees, and I make small trees grow tall. I dry up green trees, and I make dry trees grow. I, the Lord, have spoken, and I will do it.’ ”

Humble yourselves in the Lord’s presence. Then he will give you a high position.
