David and the entire nation of Israel were celebrating in the Lord’s presence with all kinds of instruments made from cypress wood  and with lyres, harps, tambourines, sistrums, and cymbals.

Miriam sang to them: “Sing to the Lord. He has won a glorious victory. He has thrown horses and their riders into the sea.”

Achish’s officers asked, “Isn’t this David, the king of ⌞his⌟ country? He’s the one they used to sing about in the dances: ‘Saul has defeated thousands but David tens of thousands.’ ”

When David realized what they had said, he was terrified of King Achish of Gath.

Isn’t this David of whom people sing in dances: ‘Saul has defeated thousands but David tens of thousands’?”
