So Jesse sent for him. He had a healthy complexion, attractive eyes, and a handsome appearance. The Lord said, “Go ahead, anoint him. He is the one.”

So he left all that he owned in Joseph’s care. He wasn’t concerned about anything except the food he ate. Joseph was well-built and handsome.

These are the last words of David: “Here is the declaration by David, son of Jesse— the declaration by the man whom God raised up, whom the God of Jacob anointed, the singer of Israel’s psalms:

“Now this is what you will say to my servant David: ‘This is what the Lord of Armies says: I took you from the pasture where you followed sheep so that you could be the leader of my people Israel.

Have the priest Zadok and the prophet Nathan anoint him king of Israel there. Then blow the ram’s horn and say, ‘Long live King Solomon!’

Kings take their stands. Rulers make plans together against the Lord and against his Messiah  by saying,

“I have installed my own king on Zion, my holy mountain.”

He chose his servant David. He took him from the sheep pens.

The woman became pregnant and had a son. She saw how beautiful he was and hid him for three months.

My beloved is dazzling yet ruddy. He stands out among 10,000 men.

Zion’s princes were purer than snow, whiter than milk. Their bodies were more pink than coral. Their hair was like sapphires.

So he said, “These are the two anointed ones who are standing beside the Lord of the whole earth.”

“In this city Herod and Pontius Pilate made plans together with non-Jewish people and the people of Israel. They made their plans against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed.

“At that time Moses was born, and he was a very beautiful child. His parents took care of him for three months.

Faith led Moses’ parents to hide him for three months after he was born. They did this because they saw that Moses was a beautiful baby and they were not afraid to disobey the king’s order.

One of the officials said, “I know one of Jesse’s sons from Bethlehem who can play well. He’s a courageous man and a warrior. He has a way with words, he is handsome, and the Lord is with him.”

When the Philistine got a good look at David, he despised him. After all, David was a young man with a healthy complexion and good looks.

As Saul watched David going out against the Philistine, he asked Abner, the commander of the army, “Abner, whose son is this young man?” Abner answered, “I solemnly swear, as you live, Your Majesty, I don’t know.”

When Samuel noticed Saul, the Lord told him, “There’s the man I told you about. This man will govern my people.”
