Be humbled by God’s power so that when the right time comes he will honor you.

You had a change of heart and humbled yourself in front of the Lord when you heard my words against this place and those who live here. After Rehoboam humbled himself, the Lord was no longer angry with him and didn’t completely destroy him. So things went well in Judah.

He did what the Lord his God considered evil and didn’t humble himself in front of the prophet Jeremiah, who spoke for the Lord.

“God does great things by his power. Is there any teacher like him?

I will destroy all the weapons of wicked people, but the weapons of righteous people will be raised proudly.

Every valley will be raised. Every mountain and hill will be lowered. Steep places will be made level. Rough places will be made smooth.

The High and Lofty One lives forever, and his name is holy. This is what he says: I live in a high and holy place. But I am with those who are crushed and humble. I will renew the spirit of those who are humble and the courage of those who are crushed.

Say to the king and his mother, “Come down from your thrones, because your crowns have fallen off your heads.”

You have not humbled yourselves even to this day. You haven’t feared me or lived your lives by my teachings or by my decrees that I gave your ancestors.

Those who honor themselves will be humbled, but people who humble themselves will be honored.”

“I can guarantee that this tax collector went home with God’s approval, but the Pharisee didn’t. Everyone who honors himself will be humbled, but the person who humbles himself will be honored.”

Look at it this way: At the right time, while we were still helpless, Christ died for ungodly people.

Are we trying to make the Lord jealous? Are we stronger than he is?

I will take revenge and be satisfied. In due time their foot will slip, because their day of disaster is near. Their doom is coming quickly.

He sacrificed himself for all people to free them from their sins. This message is valid for every era.

God has revealed this in every era by spreading his word. I was entrusted with this word by the command of God our Savior.

Humble yourselves in the Lord’s presence. Then he will give you a high position.

So place yourselves under God’s authority. Resist the devil, and he will run away from you.

Brothers and sisters, follow the example of the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. They were patient when they suffered unjustly.
