1 Peter 1:1

God's Word

From Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ. To God’s chosen people who are temporary residents ⌞in the world⌟ and are scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia.

Now, Haman told King Xerxes, “Your Majesty, there is a certain nationality scattered among—but separate from—the nationalities in all the provinces of your kingdom. Their laws differ from those of all other nationalities. They do not obey your decrees. So it is not in your interest to tolerate them, Your Majesty.

You hand us over to be butchered like sheep and scatter us among the nations.

In Corinth he met a Jewish man named Aquila and his wife Priscilla. Aquila had been born in Pontus, and they had recently come from Italy because Claudius had ordered all Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to visit them,

After spending some time in Antioch, Paul went through the regions of Galatia and Phrygia, where he strengthened ⌞the faith of⌟ all the disciples.

This continued for two years so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord.

⌞One day⌟ some men from the cities of Cyrene and Alexandria and the provinces of Cilicia and Asia started an argument with Stephen. They belonged to a synagogue called Freedmen’s Synagogue.

The believers who were scattered went from place to place, where they spread the word.

The churches in the province of Asia greet you. Aquila and Prisca and the church that meets in their house send their warmest Christian greetings.

Brothers and sisters, we don’t want you to be ignorant about the suffering we experienced in the province of Asia. It was so extreme that it was beyond our ability to endure. We even wondered if we could go on living.

and all the believers who are with me. To the churches in Galatia.

Also, at that time you were without Christ. You were excluded from citizenship in Israel, and the pledges  ⌞God made in his⌟ promise were foreign to you. You had no hope and were in the world without God.

That is why you are no longer foreigners and outsiders but citizens together with God’s people and members of God’s family.

Then the Lord will scatter you among all the people of the world, from one end of the earth to the other. There you will serve gods made of wood and stone that neither you nor your ancestors ever knew.

I said that I would cut them in pieces and erase everyone’s memory of them.

The Lord will scatter you among the people of the world, and only a few of you will be left among the nations where the Lord will force you to live.

You know that everyone in the province of Asia has deserted me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes.

All these people died having faith. They didn’t receive the things that God had promised them, but they saw these things coming in the distant future and rejoiced. They acknowledged that they were living as strangers with no permanent home on earth.

From James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. To God’s faithful people  who have been scattered. Greetings.

Dear friends, since you are foreigners and temporary residents ⌞in the world⌟, I’m encouraging you to keep away from the desires of your corrupt nature. These desires constantly attack you.

From Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ. To those who have obtained a faith that is as valuable as ours, a faith based on the approval that comes from our God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

saying, “Write on a scroll what you see, and send it to the seven churches: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.”
