When he holds back the waters, there is a drought. When he releases them, they flood the earth.

I will make it a wasteland. It will never be pruned or hoed. Thorns and weeds will grow in it, and I will command the clouds not to rain on it.

But the people have not returned to the one who struck them, nor have they sought the Lord of Armies.

“Son of man, suppose a country sins against me by being unfaithful to me. I will use my power against it, cut off its food supply, send a famine to it, and destroy its people and animals.

Israel, return to the Lord your God. You have stumbled because of your sins.

I will crush your arrogance. You will have no rain, and your land will be as hard as cement.

It is because of you that the sky has withheld its dew and the earth has withheld its produce.

If any of the families on the earth won’t go to Jerusalem to worship the king, the Lord of Armies, then rain won’t fall on them.

“Bring one-tenth of your income into the storehouse so that there may be food in my house. Test me in this way,” says the Lord of Armies. “See if I won’t open the windows of heaven for you and flood you with blessings.

“I can guarantee this truth: There were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time. It had not rained for three-and-a-half years, and the famine was severe everywhere in the country.

If you declare that Jesus is Lord, and believe that God brought him back to life, you will be saved.

People who are not Jewish praise God for his mercy as well. This is what the Scriptures say, “That is why I will give thanks to you among the nations and I will sing praises to your name.”

Be careful, or you’ll be tempted to turn away and worship other gods and bow down to them.

The Lord will become angry with you. He’ll shut the sky so that there’ll be no rain. Then the ground won’t grow any crops, and you’ll quickly disappear from this good land the Lord is giving you.

The Lord will open the heavens, his rich storehouse, for you. He will send rain on your land at the right time and bless everything you do. You will be able to make loans to many nations but won’t need to borrow from any.

These witnesses have authority to shut the sky in order to keep rain from falling during the time they speak what God has revealed. They have authority to turn water into blood and to strike the earth with any plague as often as they want.
