Solomon loved the Lord and lived by his father David’s rules. However, he still sacrificed and burned incense at these other worship sites.

“I will not take the whole kingdom from him. Instead, I will allow him to be ruler as long as he lives because of my servant David whom I chose, who obeyed my commands and laws.

If you will do all I command you, follow my ways, and do what I consider right by obeying my laws and commands as my servant David did, then I will be with you. I will build a permanent dynasty for you as I did for David. And I will give you Israel.

In his old age, his wives tempted him to follow other gods. He was no longer committed to the Lord his God as his father David had been.

So Solomon did what the Lord considered evil. He did not wholeheartedly follow the Lord as his father David had done.

They built worship sites for themselves and ⌞put up⌟ large stones and Asherah poles to worship on every high hill and under every large tree.

I tore the kingdom away from David’s heirs and gave it to you. But you have not been like my servant David. He obeyed my commands and faithfully followed me by doing only what I considered right.

Asa did what the Lord considered right, as his ancestor David had done.

The Lord did this because David did what the Lord considered right: David never failed to do anything the Lord commanded him to do his entire life (except in the matter concerning Uriah the Hittite).

Jehoshaphat carefully followed the example his father Asa had set and did what the Lord considered right.

But the illegal worship sites were not torn down. The people continued to sacrifice and burn incense at these worship sites. Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.

And if you follow me and obey my laws and commands as your father David did, then I will also give you a long life.”

Solomon responded, “You’ve shown great love to my father David, who was your servant. He lived in your presence with truth, righteousness, and commitment. And you continued to show him your great love by giving him a son to sit on his throne today.

“Now, Lord God of Israel, keep your promise to my father David, your servant. You said, ‘You will never fail to have an heir sitting in front of me on the throne of Israel if your descendants are faithful to me as you have been faithful to me.’

May your hearts be committed to the Lord our God. Then you will live by his laws and keep his commands as you have today.”

The Lord protects everyone who loves him, but he will destroy all wicked people.

Love the Lord, all you godly ones! The Lord protects faithful people, but he pays back in full those who act arrogantly.

⌞This means⌟ that the people of Israel must take the sacrifices they have been making in the open fields and bring them to the Lord. They must bring them to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting. The people will sacrifice them as fellowship offerings to the Lord.

Jesus answered him, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

“If you love me, you will obey my commandments.

Whoever knows and obeys my commandments is the person who loves me. Those who love me will have my Father’s love, and I, too, will love them and show myself to them.”

We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God—those whom he has called according to his plan.

But if they love God, they are known by God.

Israel, what does the Lord your God want you to do? He wants you to fear him, follow all his directions, love him, and worship him with all your heart and with all your soul.

The Lord wants you to obey his commands and laws that I’m giving you today for your own good.

If you faithfully obey the commands that I’m giving you today, love the Lord your God, and serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,

This is what I’m commanding you today: Love the Lord your God, follow his directions, and obey his commands, laws, and rules. Then you will live, your population will increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you’re about to enter and take possession of.

Love the Lord your God, obey him, and be loyal to him. This will be your way of life, and it will mean a long life for you  in the land that the Lord swore to give to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants. You will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and you will live.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

Blessed are those who endure when they are tested. When they pass the test, they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters! Didn’t God choose poor people in the world to become rich in faith and to receive the kingdom that he promised to those who love him?

The girls answered, “He’s there ahead of you. Hurry! He ⌞just⌟ went into the city today since the people are offering a sacrifice on the worship site.
