The two good-for-nothing men came in and sat opposite him. In front of the people, these men accused Naboth of cursing God and the king. So the people stoned him to death outside the city.

Then the leaders sent ⌞this message⌟ to Jezebel: “Naboth has been stoned to death.”

Elisha was sitting in his home with the ⌞city’s⌟ leaders. The king had sent one of his men ahead of him ⌞to Elisha’s house⌟. But before the messenger arrived, Elisha asked the leaders, “Do you see how this murderer has sent someone to tear off my head? When the messenger comes, close the door. But they plotted against Zechariah, and by the king’s order they stoned him to death in the courtyard of the Lord’s temple.

When they finished having their parties, Job would send for them in order to cleanse them from sin. He would get up early in the morning and sacrifice burnt offerings for each of them. Job thought, “My children may have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” Job offered sacrifices for them all the time.

His wife asked him, “Are you still holding on to your principles? Curse God and die!”

Do not surrender me to the will of my opponents. False witnesses have risen against me. They breathe out violence.

Malicious people bring charges against me. They ask me things I know nothing about.

Next, I turned to look at all the acts of oppression that make people suffer under the sun. Look at the tears of those who suffer! No one can comfort them. Their oppressors have ⌞all⌟ the power. No one can comfort those who suffer.

Then some of the experts in Moses’ Teachings thought, “He’s dishonoring God.”

They began to accuse Jesus by saying, “We found that he stirs up trouble among our people: He keeps them from paying taxes to the emperor, and he says that he is Christ, a king.”

When Pilate heard what Jesus said, he wanted to free him. But the Jews shouted, “If you free this man, you’re not a friend of the emperor. Anyone who claims to be a king is defying the emperor.”

We have found this man to be a troublemaker. He starts quarrels among all Jews throughout the world. He’s a ringleader of the Nazarene sect.

Then they bribed some men to lie. These men said, “We heard him slander Moses and God.”

Stone them to death because they were trying to lead you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of slavery in Egypt.

All the men of the city should stone him to death. You must get rid of this evil. When all Israel hears about it, they will be afraid.
