When the king passed by, the disciple called to him. “I went to fight in the battle. A man turned around and brought a prisoner to me. He said, ‘Guard this prisoner. If he gets away, you will pay for his life with your own life or be fined 75 pounds of silver.’

Be careful that you are not led astray with riches. Don’t let a large bribe turn you ⌞to evil ways⌟.

No one can ever buy back another person or pay God a ransom for his life.

However, if only a cash settlement is demanded from the owner, the bull’s owner may save his life by paying whatever price is demanded of him.

A person’s riches are the ransom for his life, but the poor person does not pay attention to threats.

No amount of money will change his mind. The largest bribe will not satisfy him.

Cursed are those who neglect doing the Lord’s work. Cursed are those who keep their swords from killing.
