This is how the Lord rewards those who accuse me, those who say evil things against me.

His mischief lands back on his own head. His violence comes down on top of him.

A wicked person will be trapped by his own wrongs, and he will be caught in the ropes of his own sin.

“ ‘So this is what the Almighty Lord says: As I live, I will certainly punish you for rejecting my promise and hating my treaty.

So the priests will be punished like the people. I will punish them for their wicked ways and pay them back for what they have done.

One by one, beginning with the older men, the experts in Moses’ Teachings and Pharisees left. Jesus was left alone with the woman.

They show that some requirements found in Moses’ Teachings are written in their hearts. Their consciences speak to them. Their thoughts accuse them on one occasion and defend them on another.

Whenever our conscience condemns us, we will be reassured that God is greater than our conscience and knows everything.
