⌞You’ll succeed⌟ because the Lord will keep the promise he made to me: ‘If your descendants are faithful to me with all their hearts and lives, you will never fail to have an heir on the throne of Israel.’

When Abram was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to him. He said to Abram, “I am God Almighty. Live in my presence with integrity.

I have chosen him so that he will direct his children and his family after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. In this way I, the Lord, will do what I have promised Abraham.”

“Now, Lord God, keep the promise you made to me and my house forever. Do as you promised.

and said, ‘Praise the Lord God of Israel who has let me see the heir to my throne.’ ”

I will give his son one tribe so that my servant David will always have a lamp in my presence in Jerusalem, the city where I chose to place my name.

And if you follow me and obey my laws and commands as your father David did, then I will also give you a long life.”

Solomon loved the Lord and lived by his father David’s rules. However, he still sacrificed and burned incense at these other worship sites.

“This concerns the temple you are building: If you live by my laws, follow my rules, and keep my commands, I will fulfill the promise I made about you to your father David.

and said, “Lord God of Israel, there is no god like you in heaven above or on earth below. You keep your promise  of mercy to your servants, who obey you wholeheartedly.

“Now, Lord God of Israel, keep your promise to my father David, your servant. You said, ‘You will never fail to have an heir sitting in front of me on the throne of Israel if your descendants are faithful to me as you have been faithful to me.’

then I will establish your royal dynasty over Israel forever as I promised your father David when I said, ‘You will never fail to have an heir on the throne of Israel.’

“Please, Lord, remember how I’ve lived faithfully and sincerely in your presence. I’ve done what you consider right.” And he cried bitterly.

No king before Josiah had turned to the Lord with all his heart, soul, and strength, as directed in Moses’ Teachings. No other ⌞king⌟ was like Josiah.

The king stood beside the pillar and made a promise to the Lord that he would follow the Lord and obey his commands, instructions, and laws with all his heart and soul. He confirmed the terms of the promise written in this book. And all the people joined in the promise.

“And you, my son Solomon, learn to know your father’s God. Serve the Lord wholeheartedly and willingly because he searches every heart and understands every thought ⌞we have⌟. If you dedicate your life to serving him, he will accept you. But if you abandon him, he will reject you from then on.

The Lord was with Jehoshaphat, who lived in the old way like his ancestor David. Jehoshaphat didn’t dedicate his life to serving other gods—the Baals.

“Now, Lord God of Israel, keep your promise to my father David, your servant. You said, ‘You will never fail to have an heir sitting in front of me on the throne of Israel if your descendants are faithful to me as you have been faithful to me.’

then I will establish your royal dynasty as I said in a promise to your father David, ‘You will never fail to have an heir ruling Israel.’

How can a young person keep his life pure? ⌞He can do it⌟ by holding on to your word.

Those who are blessed by him will inherit the land. Those who are cursed by him will be cut off.

Evildoers will be cut off ⌞from their inheritance⌟, but those who wait with hope for the Lord will inherit the land.

I said, “I will watch my ways so that I do not sin with my tongue. I will bridle my mouth while wicked people are in my presence.”

“This what the Lord says: David will never fail to have a descendant sitting on the throne of Israel.

“This is what I will do if you will live by my laws and carefully obey my commands:

I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem for battle. The city will be captured, the houses looted, and the women raped. Half of the people in the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people won’t be taken from the city.

Jesus answered him, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

Zechariah and Elizabeth had God’s approval. They followed all the Lord’s commands and regulations perfectly.

Israel, what does the Lord your God want you to do? He wants you to fear him, follow all his directions, love him, and worship him with all your heart and with all your soul.

If you faithfully obey the commands that I’m giving you today, love the Lord your God, and serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

If you listen to these rules and faithfully obey them, the Lord your God will keep his promise to you and be merciful to you, as he swore to your ancestors.

God can guard you so that you don’t fall and so that you can be full of joy as you stand in his glorious presence without fault.
