After the earthquake there was a fire. But the Lord wasn’t in the fire. And after the fire there was a quiet, whispering voice.

The sun had gone down, and it was dark. Suddenly a smoking oven and a flaming torch passed between the animal pieces.

So a fire from the Lord fell down and consumed the burnt offering, wood, stones, and dirt. The fire even dried up the water that was in the trench.

Elijah answered the officer, “If I’m a man of God, fire will come from heaven and burn up you and your 50 men.” Then fire came from heaven and burned up the officer and his 50 men.

As they continued walking and talking, a fiery chariot with fiery horses separated the two of them, and Elijah went to heaven in a windstorm.

You certainly don’t need to be terrified of me. I won’t put too much pressure on you.

Something stood there. I couldn’t tell what it was. A vague image was in front of my eyes. I heard a soft voice:

The Messenger of the Lord appeared to him there as flames of fire coming out of a bush. Moses looked, and although the bush was on fire, it was not burning up.

Then he passed in front of Moses, calling out, “The Lord, the Lord, a compassionate and merciful God, patient, always faithful and ready to forgive.

Then he replied, “This is the word the Lord spoke to Zerubbabel: You won’t ⌞succeed⌟ by might or by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Armies.

Suddenly, a sound like a violently blowing wind came from the sky and filled the whole house where they were staying.

You didn’t see the Lord the day he spoke to you from the fire at Mount Horeb. So be very careful

Have any ⌞other⌟ people ever heard God speak from a fire and lived? You did!

After all, our God is a destructive fire.
