A man of God from Judah had come to Bethel. When he arrived, Jeroboam was standing at the altar to offer a sacrifice.

So the man of God left on another road and didn’t go back on the road he had taken to Bethel.

The man of God said, “I’m not allowed to go back with you. I’m not allowed to eat or drink with you.

The man of God went back with him and ate and drank in his home.

The man of God told the king, “Even if you gave me half of your palace, I would never go with you to eat or drink there.

I have not left his commands behind. I have treasured his words in my heart.

Do not let me be persuaded to do anything evil or to become involved with wickedness, with people who are troublemakers. Do not let me taste their delicacies.

He said to the community, “Move away from the tents of these wicked men. Don’t touch anything that belongs to them, or you’ll be swept away because of all their sins.”

If you understand all of this, you are blessed whenever you follow my example.

You are my friends if you obey my commandments.

Brothers and sisters, I urge you to watch out for those people who create divisions and who make others fall away ⌞from the Christian faith⌟ by teaching doctrine that is not the same as you have learned. Stay away from them.

Now, what I meant was that you should not associate with people who call themselves brothers or sisters in the Christian faith but live in sexual sin, are greedy, worship false gods, use abusive language, get drunk, or are dishonest. Don’t eat with such people.

Have nothing to do with the useless works that darkness produces. Instead, expose them for what they are.

I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of Babylon, my people, so that you do not participate in her sins and suffer from any of her plagues.

Then Samuel said, “Is the Lord as delighted with burnt offerings and sacrifices as he would be with your obedience? To follow instructions is better than to sacrifice. To obey is better than sacrificing the fat of rams.
