So Solomon did what the Lord considered evil. He did not wholeheartedly follow the Lord as his father David had done.

He did these things for each of his foreign wives who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.

He forced the male temple prostitutes out of the land and got rid of the idols his father had made.

Josiah also made Topheth in the valley of Ben Hinnom unclean so that people would never again sacrifice their sons or daughters by burning them to the god Molech.

Jehoram made illegal places of worship in the hills of Judah. This caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to chase after foreign gods as if they were prostitutes. So he led Judah astray.

They made him angry because of their illegal worship sites. They made him furious because they worshiped idols.

No one stops to think. No one has enough knowledge or understanding to say, “I burned half of the wood in the fire. I also baked bread over its coals. I roasted meat and ate it. Now I am making the rest of the wood into a disgusting thing and bowing to a block of wood.”

“The people in this city have made me so angry and furious from the day they built it to this day. So now I must remove this city from my presence.

In the valley of Ben Hinnom they built worship sites for Baal to sacrifice their sons and daughters to Molech. I didn’t ask them to do this. It never entered my mind. I didn’t make Judah sin.

Then Moab will be ashamed of Chemosh as the nation of Israel was ashamed when it trusted Bethel.

How horrible it will be for you, Moab. You people of Chemosh will die. Your sons will be taken away into exile, and your daughters will be taken away into captivity.

He oppresses the poor and needy. He robs. He doesn’t return the security for a loan. He looks to idols for help. He does disgusting things.

His forces will dishonor the holy place (the fortress), take away the daily burnt offering, and set up the disgusting thing that causes destruction.

From the time the daily burnt offering is taken away and the disgusting thing that causes destruction is set up, there will be 1,290 days.

I will destroy your worship sites, cut down your incense altars, and pile your dead bodies on top of your dead idols. I will look at you with disgust.

All this is because of Jacob’s crime and Israel’s sin. What is Jacob’s crime? Isn’t it Samaria? What is Judah’s worship place? Isn’t it Jerusalem?

On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, just east of Jerusalem. The Mount of Olives will be split in two, forming a very large valley from east to west. Half of the mountain will move toward the north, and the other half will move toward the south.

How horrible it is for you, Moab! You are destroyed, you people of the god Chemosh. Chemosh let his sons become refugees and he let his daughters become prisoners of King Sihon of the Amorites.

As you advance, force out all the people who live there. Get rid of all their stone and metal idols, and destroy all their places of worship.

After they sang a hymn, they went to the Mount of Olives.

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mountain called the Mount of Olives. It is near Jerusalem, about half a mile away.

After he had said this, he was taken to heaven. A cloud hid him so that they could no longer see him.

You carried along the shrine of Moloch, the star of the god Rephan, and the statues you made for yourselves to worship. I will send you into exile beyond the city of Babylon.’

Then make a thorough investigation. If it is true, and you can prove that this disgusting thing has been done among you,

“Whoever has a carved or metal statue, anything disgusting to the Lord that was made by a craftsman, and sets it up in secret will be cursed.” Then all the people will say amen.

Shouldn’t you take possession of what your god Chemosh took for you? Shouldn’t we take everything the Lord our God took for us?
