I will do today exactly what I swore to you by the Lord God of Israel. Your son Solomon will be king after me. He will sit on my throne.”
Go to King David and ask him, ‘Your Majesty, didn’t you swear to me that my son Solomon will be king after you, and that he will sit on your throne? Why is Adonijah acting as king?’
“Sir,” she answered, “You took an oath to the Lord your God. You said that my son Solomon will be king after you, and that he will sit on your throne.
Solomon sat on his father David’s throne, and his power was firmly established.
And of all my sons (the Lord has given me many sons) he chose my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the Lord’s kingdom to rule Israel.
Then Solomon sat on the Lord’s throne as king in place of his father David. Solomon was successful and all Israel obeyed him.
He died at a very old age. His long life was full of wealth and honor. Then his son Solomon succeeded him as king.
Since a king’s word has such power, no one can ask him what he is doing.
