Don’t you realize that those who work at the temple get their food from the temple? Don’t those who help at the altar get a share of what is on the altar?

He may eat the food of his God—what is holy and what is very holy.

When the sun has set, he will be clean. Then he may eat the holy offerings because they are his food.

The priest who makes the offering for sin will eat it in a holy place, in the courtyard of the tent of meeting.

“The priest will burn the fat on the altar. However, the breast will belong to Aaron and his sons.

So you and your households may eat it anywhere, because it’s the wages you receive for your work at the tent of meeting.

Don’t you know that if you offer to be someone’s slave, you must obey that master? Either your master is sin, or your master is obedience. Letting sin be your master leads to death. Letting obedience be your master leads to God’s approval.

Look at the people of Israel from a human point of view. Don’t those who eat the sacrifices share what is on the altar?

Don’t you realize that everyone who runs in a race runs to win, but only one runner gets the prize? Run like them, so that you can win.

This is why the tribe of Levi has no land of their own as the other tribes have. The Lord your God is their only possession, as he promised them.

I chose ⌞one of your ancestors⌟ out of all the tribes of Israel to serve as my priest, to sacrifice burnt offerings on my altar, to burn incense, and to wear the ephod in my presence. And I gave your ancestors the right to keep portions of the sacrifices that the people of Israel burned on the altar.
