God's Word

David said to God, “I’m the one who ordered the people to be counted. I am the one who sinned and did wrong. What have these sheep done? Lord my God, let your punishment be against me and my father’s family, but don’t punish your people with a plague.”

David said to God, “I have committed a terrible sin by doing this thing. Forgive me because I have acted very foolishly.”

You hand us over to be butchered like sheep and scatter us among the nations.

Rescue me from the guilt of murder, O God, my savior. Let my tongue sing joyfully about your righteousness!

I have sinned against you, especially you. I have done what you consider evil. So you hand down justice when you speak, and you are blameless when you judge.

Why, O God, have you rejected us forever? Why does your anger smolder against the sheep in your care?

Never worship them or serve them, because I, the Lord your God, am a God who does not tolerate rivals. I punish children for their parents’ sins to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me.

You will remember and be ashamed. You will never again open your mouth because of your disgrace when I forgive you for everything you did, declares the Almighty Lord.’ ”

He told them, “Throw me overboard. Then the sea will become calm. I know that I’m responsible for this violent storm.”

I wish I could be condemned and cut off from Christ for the sake of others who, like me, are Jewish by birth.

You have turned away from following the Lord! Today you rebel against the Lord, and tomorrow he will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel.

We understand what love is when we realize that Christ gave his life for us. That means we must give our lives for other believers.
