For the first time David entrusted Asaph and his relatives with the task of singing songs of thanks to the Lord:

David sang this song to the Lord when the Lord rescued him from all his enemies, especially from Saul.

The priests Benaiah and Jahaziel played trumpets all the time in front of the ark of God’s promise.

Then King Hezekiah and the leaders told the Levites to praise the Lord with the words of David and the seer Asaph. They joyfully sang praises, bowed down, and worshiped.

The heads of the Levites were Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua (son of Kadmiel). They and their relatives stood in groups across from one another to sing hymns of praise and thanksgiving antiphonally as David, the man of God, had ordered.

Help, O Lord. No godly person is left. Faithful people have vanished from among Adam’s descendants!

I love you, O Lord, my strength.
