They told David, “You will never get in here.” But David captured the fortress Zion (that is, the City of David).

David lived in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built the city ⌞of Jerusalem⌟ around it from the Millo  to the palace.

So David wouldn’t bring the ark of the Lord with him to the City of David. Instead, he rerouted it to the home of Obed Edom, who was from Gath.

King David was told, “The Lord has blessed Obed Edom’s home and everything he owns because of the ark of God.” Then David joyfully went to get the ark of God from Obed Edom’s house and bring it to the City of David.

Then Solomon assembled the respected leaders of Israel, all the heads of the tribes, and the leaders of the Israelite families. They came to King Solomon in Jerusalem to take the ark of the Lord’s promise from the City of David (that is, Zion).

David and all Israel went to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus). The Jebusites were living in that region.

Now, David said, “Whoever is the first to kill a Jebusite will be made a general and a prince.” Zeruiah’s son Joab was the first to go ⌞into Jerusalem⌟, so he became the general.

David lived in the fortress, so it was called the City of David.

Then Solomon assembled the respected leaders of Israel, all the heads of the tribes, and the leaders of the Israelite families. They came to Jerusalem to take the ark of the Lord’s promise from the City of David (that is, Zion).

The court of justice sits there. It consists of ⌞princes who are⌟ David’s descendants.

The Lord has chosen Zion. He wants it for his home.

“I have installed my own king on Zion, my holy mountain.”

Its beautiful peak is the joy of the whole earth. Mount Zion is on the northern ridge. It is the city of the great king.

but he chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which he loved.

The Lord loves the city of Zion more than any other place in Jacob.

But it will be said of Zion, “Every race is born in it. The Most High will make it secure.”

Make music to praise the Lord, who is enthroned in Zion. Announce to the nations what he has done.

As Scripture says, “I am placing a rock in Zion that people trip over, a large rock that people find offensive. Whoever believes in him will not be ashamed.”

Instead, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, to the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to tens of thousands of angels joyfully gathered together

I looked, and the lamb was standing on Mount Zion. There were 144,000 people with him who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads.

But the Levite refused to spend another night. He left and traveled as far as Jebus (now called Jerusalem). He had with him two saddled donkeys and his concubine.

David asked the men who were standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and gets rid of Israel’s disgrace? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should challenge the army of the living God?”

I have killed lions and bears, and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them because he has challenged the army of the living God.”
