We accept the obligation to pay one third of a shekel for the operation of the Temple of God,

Each one who crosses over to those counted must give a half shekel (using the sanctuary shekel standard, which weighs twenty gerahs). This half shekel is an offering to the Lord.

This represents a beka per person, or half a shekel (using the sanctuary shekel standard) from everyone twenty years of age or older who had been censused, a total of 603,550 men.
