He told his men, “May the Lord prevent me from doing anything like this to my master, the Lord's anointed one. I will never attack him, for he is the Lord's anointed one.”

“Why weren't you worried about killing the Lord's anointed one?” David asked.

Afterwards, David felt really bad for ordering the census. He said to God, “I have committed a terrible sin by doing this. Please take away the guilt of your servant, for I have been very stupid.”

But Naboth replied, “The Lord curse me if I should give you my forefathers' inheritance.”

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

Bless those who persecute you—bless them, and don't curse them.

He reprimanded his men and didn't allow them to attack Saul. Saul stood up and went on his way.
