Let each person examine themselves, and then let them eat the bread and drink from the cup.

Then Joshua said to the people, “Make sure you are pure, because tomorrow the Lord is going to do amazing things among you.”

Get up, and make sure the people are pure. Tell them, ‘Make yourselves pure in readiness for tomorrow, because this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says, There are things set apart for me that are hidden among you, Israel. You will not be able to stand against your enemies until you remove all of them.

Saul didn't say anything that day because he thought, “Something has probably happened to David to make him ceremonially unclean—yes, he must be unclean.”
