The angel of the Lord met Hagar at a spring in the desert—the spring on the road to Shur.

The first branch was called the Pishon and it flowed through the whole land of Havilah, where gold is found.

Ishmael's descendants inhabited the region from Havilah to Shur, near the border of Egypt in the direction of Asshur. They were forever fighting with one other.

Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. These were all Joktan's sons.

They destroyed the rest of the Amalekites who had escaped. They have lived there to this very day.

Wicked people are spared in times of disaster; they are rescued from the day of judgment.

In fact, the wicked will not live long, passing like a shadow, because they refuse to follow God.

He fought bravely, conquering the Amalekites, saving Israel from those who plundered them.

During that time David and his men were raiding the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites. These people had lived in the land as far as Shur and Egypt from ancient times.

Three days later David and his men arrived back in Ziklag. Some Amalekites had raided the Negev and Ziklag. They had attacked Ziklag and burned it down.
