On the way they came across a man who was just passing by, coming in from the countryside. The man’s name was Listening Man (Simon), the father of Man Fighter (Alexander) and Red Man (Rufus). The soldiers forced him to carry the heavy crossbeam for Creator Sets Free (Jesus). The cross was an instrument of torture and terror, used by the People of Iron (Romans) to strike fear into the hearts of any who dared to rise up against their empire. The victim’s hands and feet would be pierced with large iron nails, fastening them to the tree-pole. The victims would hang there, sometimes for days, until they were dead. This was one of the most cruel and painful ways to die ever devised by human beings.


“You may think you chose me, but I am the one who chose you. You are my new garden where I will grow a great harvest of my love—the fruit that remains. When you bear this fruit, you represent who I am—my name. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask for.


My sacred family members loved by our Honored Chief, we owe thanks to the Great Spirit for you. He has chosen you to be first among those he will set free and make whole, as you trust in the truth through his Spirit who makes you holy.


In the same way, before he made all things and because of his great love, the Maker of Life chose to make us pure and holy in his eyes.


Then he said to his follower, “Look to your mother.” From that time the follower took Bitter Tears (Mary) into his family and cared for her.


The ones who walk in the ways of the Great Spirit are all my relatives—my mother, my brothers and my sisters.”
