“When you send your voice to the Great Spirit, do not be like the ones who love to stand up and pray with a loud voice in the gathering houses and along the village pathways, hoping to be seen and heard by others. The truth is, they have their honor already. They will get no more.

When you give gifts to the poor and do good things for others, do not brag about it on the village pathways or in the gathering houses, like those who put on a false face, pretending to be something they are not. The truth is, they honor only themselves and they will get nothing more.


“Now the tribal tax collector hung his head down and would not even lift his face to the spirit-world above. He beat his hands against his chest and cried out, ‘Creator! Be kind and have pity on me. I am a pitiful man, full of bad thoughts and wrongdoings!’


“In the same way, when you stand and pray and there remember you have something against another, release them from the wrong they have done, so that your Father from above will also release you from the wrongs you have done.”


With many words they make long, empty prayers to trick widows into giving them their homes and possessions, but they will all come to a worse end than others.”


But his gift of great kindness is more than enough, just as our Sacred Teachings also say, “The Great Spirit stands against the proud and arrogant, but he shows great kindness to the humble of heart.”


Creator Sets Free (Jesus) told them a story to show that they should pray at all times and never lose heart.


All of this is done by prayer, sending your voice to the Great Spirit, asking him for all that is needed. As you pray with the help of the Spirit, stay alert and keep all of Creator’s holy people in your thoughts, praying for their needs.


“Sorrow and trouble await you Separated Ones (Pharisees)! For you love to sit in the seats of honor at the gathering houses and to be noticed at the trading posts.


So when you send your prayers to the Great Spirit, believe that he hears you, and whatever you ask for will be yours.”


During his teachings he said, “Be on the lookout for the scroll keepers who like to show off by walking around in their fancy regalia, who want to be noticed at the trading posts,


Pray to the Great Spirit Chief of the harvest, so he will send out more helpers into the fields.”


“Sorrow and trouble is waiting for you scroll keepers and Separated Ones (Pharisees), for you have hidden from the people the way onto the good road from above. You have failed to walk the good road yourselves, and, even worse, you have barred the way for others who were trying to find the way.


They love to dress up in fine regalia, sit in the seats of honor at the gathering houses,


“When you go without food to seek spiritual things, do not be like the ones who put on a false face. They hang their heads down and darken their faces to look as if they are going without food. They only want people to notice them and think they are spiritual. I speak from my heart, they already have all the honor they deserve—they will get no more.


“Beware of doing good just so people can see you, for then you will receive no honor from your Father from above, who is the Creator.


“They want to look important to others, so to look spiritual they wear large and fancy medicine pouches and long fringes on their outfits.


“Sorrow and trouble will be the end of you who store up possessions for yourselves, for you have already had a life of ease.
