He answered them, “Have you not heard about the time long ago when the great chief Much Loved One (David) was hungry? How he and his followers went into Creator’s sacred lodge and ate the ceremonial bread? Only the holy men are permitted to eat this bread.” He paused to let them think about his words.


Have you not read in the Sacred Teachings where it is said, ‘The tree the lodge builders threw away has become the Chief Lodgepole.


and said to him, “Do you hear what these children are saying?” “I hear them,” he answered, “but have you not heard what the ancient Sacred Teachings say? ‘From the mouths of little children and nursing babies you have created praise.’”


“As for the dead rising again, do you not remember what was written in the Sacred Teachings about the time when the Great Spirit spoke to Drawn from the Water (Moses) from the burning bush? He said, ‘I am the Great Spirit of Father of Many Nations (Abraham), of He Made Us Laugh (Isaac), and of Heel Grabber (Jacob).’


Then he added, “You say you do not believe the dead will rise again. But have you not read what was told by the Maker of Life:


“Have you not read in tribal law that the holy men who perform the ceremonies in the sacred lodge are permitted to ignore the sacredness of the Day of Resting—without blame?


He answered him, “What is written in our tribal law about this? Tell me, how do you see it?”


“Have you not read in the Sacred Teachings,” Creator Sets Free (Jesus) asked them, “that, in the beginning of creation, from one human being the Great Spirit made two—one male and one female?


When the Separated Ones (Pharisees) saw what they were doing, they said to him, “Why do your followers do what is not permitted on the Day of Resting?”


How he and his followers went into the sacred lodge and ate the ceremonial bread? Tribal law says that only the holy men are permitted to eat this bread.
