Matthew 12:10

First Nations Version

There he saw a man with a shriveled and useless hand. The Separated Ones (Pharisees) had been keeping a close eye on him. Then they saw him looking at the man with the useless hand. Trying to find a reason to accuse him, they asked, “Is it permitted to heal on the Day of Resting?” Creator Sets Free (Jesus) knew what they were scheming.

The headman of the gathering house was offended because Creator Sets Free (Jesus) had healed on the Day of Resting. He stood up and told the people, “Are there not six other days to do your work? Come on one of those days to be healed, not on the Day of Resting.” Creator Sets Free (Jesus) helped the woman back to her seat. He then turned to the headman with a look of sorrow mixed with anger on his face.


Then some of the Separated Ones (Pharisees) said, “This man, who does not honor the Day of Resting, cannot be from the Great Spirit.” But others were saying, “How can someone with a bad heart perform powerful signs such as these?”


They were putting him to a test, so they could have a way to accuse him. The crowd was silent and waited to see what he would say, but he said nothing. He bent over and with his finger wrote something in the dirt. When he did not answer right away, the Separated Ones (Pharisees) became angry and kept questioning him.


The strict traditional Tribal Members saw the healed man carrying his bundle. “It is the Day of Resting,” they said to him. “Tribal law forbids you to carry your sleeping bundle.”


They began to attack him with sharp questions, trying to trap him in his words.


When the Separated Ones (Pharisees) saw what they were doing, they said to him, “Why do your followers do what is not permitted on the Day of Resting?”

So they began to accuse him, “We caught this man misleading our nation and telling people not to pay taxes to the government of the People of Iron (Romans). He tells the people that he is the Chosen One, a Great Chief.”


and said to them, “You told me this man was a troublemaker, but I questioned him and found him not guilty of your accusations.


Tell us what is permitted, should our tribal members pay taxes to the Ruler of the People of Iron (Caesar)? Yes or no?”


Some of the Separated Ones (Pharisees) came to him. “Does our tribal law permit a man to put away his wife for any and every reason?” they asked.


The Separated Ones (Pharisees) kept a close eye on Creator Sets Free (Jesus) to see whether he would heal the man on the Day of Resting, so they could accuse him.


If this is permitted on the Day of Resting, then why are you angry with me for healing a man’s whole body on that day?
