First Nations Version

As Creator Sets Free (Jesus) climbed out of the canoe, he saw the great crowd of people, and his heart went out to them again. He saw that they were like sheep with no shepherd to watch over them. He stayed there with them and began to teach and tell them stories about Creator’s good road.

When he saw the great number of people needing help, he was moved in his spirit with great compassion for them. He knew they were pushed down with no one to help and scattered about like sheep without a shepherd to watch over them.


The crowd of people saw where they were going and followed him. When Creator Sets Free (Jesus) saw the great crowd of people, his heart went out to them again. He welcomed them and took the time to tell stories and help them understand many things about Creator’s good road. He also healed the ones among them who were sick.


For we do not have a chief holy man who is unable to feel the same kind of pain and sorrow we feel. Even though he faced the same temptations we face, he never gave in to them or did anything wrong.


And when he came to shore, they were waiting for him. He felt deeply for them, so he healed the ones who were sick.


I am saying that Creator Sets Free (Jesus) needed to become fully and truly human. In this way, he could serve as Creator’s honorable and merciful chief holy man and perform the ancient mercy-seat ceremony one last time to heal the bad hearts and broken ways of the people.


Creator Sets Free (Jesus) called his followers to his side and said to them, “I have pity in my heart for all these people, for they have been with us for three days with no food. Some of them have come from a great distance, and if I send them away hungry, they might lose their strength and faint.”


But the people saw where they were going and ran ahead of them. They came from all the surrounding villages and were waiting for them when they arrived.


It was late in the day, so his followers said to him, “This is a deserted place, and the day is almost over.


On another one of those days a great crowd had gathered, and, like the time before, they were hungry with nothing to eat. Creator Sets Free (Jesus) called his followers to his side and said to them,


“I am concerned for all these people, for they have been with us for three days with no food.
