Right then a rooster crowed for the second time. Stands on the Rock (Peter) remembered what Creator Sets Free (Jesus) had told him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny three times that you know me.” Then Stands on the Rock (Peter) broke down and wept.

“I speak from my heart,” he said back to him. “This very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny three times that you even know me.”


“I do not know him or what you are saying!” he said to her, and as he moved away toward the outside of the courtyard, a rooster crowed.


With the help of the Great Spirit, sorrow can create a change of heart that will not turn back, which sets us free and makes us whole. But there is a sorrow in this world that leads only to death.


Then Stands on the Rock (Peter) ran out of the gate, at the first light of dawn, and wept bitter tears as he stumbled down the road.


“Man!” Stands on the Rock (Peter) defended himself, “I do not know what you are talking about.” Before he could get the words out of his mouth, a rooster crowed.


“I speak from my heart,” Creator Sets Free (Jesus) said back to him, “before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you know me.”


Stands on the Rock (Peter) cursed, made a sacred oath, and said, “I do not know this man you are talking about.”
