The crowd circled around him, front and back, and began to shout: “Hosanna! To the descendant of Much Loved One (David)! “Blessed is the one who comes representing the Great Spirit! “Hosanna to the highest one!” This humble Chief did not fit the image of a conquering ruler. Instead of a warhorse, he rode on a donkey colt. No mighty warriors rode next to him. No dignitaries came out to meet him. It was mostly the common people who welcomed him that day.

I speak from my heart, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is the one who comes representing the Great Spirit!’”

“Take him away! Take him away!” the crowd shouted with one voice. “Nail him to the cross!” “Would you have me nail your chief to the cross?” he asked them. This time the head holy men answered back, “We have no other chief than the Ruler of the People of Iron (Caesar).”

A great crowd of them took branches from palm trees and went out to greet him. Waving palm branches in their hands, they began to shout, “Hosanna!” meaning “Help us!” They cried out with glad hearts. “We honor you as the one who is to come representing the Great Spirit. You are the Great Chief of the tribes of Wrestles with Creator (Israel)!”

A crowd gathered around, and some of them laid their buffalo robes on the road, while others spread out branches with large leaves they had cut from the fields. The people were hoping he would be a mighty warrior chief, like their ancestor Much Loved One (David), to set them free from the People of Iron (Romans). But he did not ride a warhorse on that day, as one might expect. Instead, he rode a small, humble donkey colt. He came weeping over the Village of Peace (Jerusalem), but even this could not silence the hopes of the crowd.
