A spirit takes hold of him, making him scream out loud, then foam comes from his mouth. It seldom stops tormenting him—leaving him beaten and bruised.

He said this because Creator Sets Free (Jesus) had ordered the evil spirit to leave the man. In the past this evil spirit had often taken hold of the man, so the villagers had kept the man bound with chains and under close watch. But the man had broken the chains, and the evil spirit had forced him out into the desert.


Creator Sets Free (Jesus) spoke sharply to him, “Be silent! Leave this man now!” The evil spirit shook the man, threw him to the ground, and came out without hurting him.


The spirit cried out, and the boy began to twist and turn upon the ground. The spirit then came out, and the boy became so still it looked as if he were dead. “He must be dead!” the people said out loud.


So they brought the boy to him, and right when the spirit saw Creator Sets Free (Jesus), it took hold of the boy, who then fell to the ground. He began to roll around on the ground, and foam came from his mouth.


Their war-chief is the spirit-messenger of the deep dark underworld. The name of the war-chief in our tribal language is Abaddon, meaning Destroyer, and in the language of the Outside Nations his name is Apollyon, also meaning Destroyer.


Stay alert and remain calm, for your opponent, the evil trickster, prowls about, roaring like a mountain lion, looking for someone to devour.
